A 30 anni dall'arrivo di Diego Armando Maradona a Napoli, sulla scia, i trofei e le cadute del più grande calciatore di tutti i tempi, ci immergiamo in una storia d'amore degli anni '80. Uno squattrinato contrabbandiere, tifoso sfegatato di un Napoli stellare, viene risucchiato dalle gioie, ansie e paure di una città in totale affanno.
La più grande guerra di camorra, 264 morti, il totonero, il contrabbando organizzato di sigarette, i motoscafi blu, i 3 pacchetti mille lire. La peste silenziosa dell'eroina, strage di giovani napoletani poco raccontata. Ma non importa tanto cè Diego, c'è "Oh mamma mamma mamma, sai perchè mi batte il corazon", c'è il mito, l'ennesimo capopopolo, idolatrato, portato in festa per la città, lasciato sprofondare tra i vicoli, senza troppi rimorsi. Una costellazione di donne, amanti, orfane di gloriosi padri boss, si affannano, si innamorano sulle note di Nino D'Angelo, telefonate di nascosto coi telefoni a gettoni, provano a tracciare i contorni di una Napoli americanizzata, in cerca di riscatto, potere, equilibri.
Il tentativo di raccontare attraverso il teatro una storia, un periodo, un'era, un uomo Diego Armando Maradona, il gusto di avere in mano uno spillo per bucare miti-palloncini, boss, calciatori e sindaci, gonfi d'aria d'apparenza, il gusto, anzi il dovere, di bucare, di bucarsi, per scrutare ciò che resta di una città, alzare la sudicia e menzognera sciarpa di "pane et circenses" per vedere cosa c'è sotto, ma soprattutto chi c'è sotto. In ogni caso "Maradona è meglio e Pelè" e dimenticavamo: Forza Napoli.
